computer. Students are also introduced to the Internet as a study and research tool. At the
completion of this unit students will be able to:
- Use various components of a personal computer system.
- Use the word processor in various stages of writing.

Investigative and exploratory activities will encourage students to become actively involved in the
learning of mathematics. This unit is essential for students who wish to undertake further studies in
science or business.

This unit is an introduction to the study of chemistry for those students with little or no background
in this subject. On completion of this unit students should have a good understanding of elements
and compounds, mass mole calculations, structure and bonding, solids, liquids and gases and energy
in chemical reactions. Students will also be introduced to equilibrium in chemical reactions, acids
and bases, oxidation and reduction reactions.
KAC070 Introduction to the Practice of Teaching
This unit looks at the processes of 'learning' and 'teaching' in classrooms. The main theme will be;
what kinds of things do teachers need to think about, take into account and do when they teach children?
Students will visit one school five or six times during the semester, shadowing a teacher or Aboriginal
Educator. During these visits students will also work with an individual child or small group of children
under the guidance of a teacher or an Aboriginal Education Worker. They will keep a journal, which
documents their work with the child or small group. Within this unit, career paths in Education will be
discussed.

TLC020 Introduction to University Learning
This unit introduces students to university scholarship. It aims to develop students' skills as university learners by integrating their practice of fundamental learning skills with the study of concepts from various disciplines. It also aims to inform students' understanding of themselves as university learners generally, as well as their chosen discipline. The theoretical basis of the unit uses the concepts of the 'self' and of 'culture' to clarify the relationship between the learner and the university's requirements and expectations of students.
